Ernest Hemingway, Polydactyl Cats – $1,000
Polydactyl Cats are a rare collection of exotic pets owned by Ernest Hemingway, a former American short story writer. The late journalist and novelist got a cat in the 1930s that he named Snow White and which suffered from a condition known as polydactyly (a rare genetic disorder that made the cats have six toes).
He loved and cherished this cat so much and as the years went by, it was multiplied into a nest of many other cats. Having got the cat for $1,000, we are sure the maintenance bill was on the high side as Hemingway’s home, which is now a museum, has been home to over 50 cats!
