Gena Rowlands – Semi-retired at Age 89
When filmmaker Nick Cassavetes wanted to cast a talented older lady to play the aged version of Allie Calhoun in his 2004 hit movie The Notebook, he didn’t have to look further than home, and he cast his mother in that role. Of course, his mom Gena Rowlands is no novice and has been a successful actress in the movies and on TV for more than 60 years now.
Rowlands’ body of work consists of hit movies such as Gloria, A Woman Under the Influence and Love Streams – all of which were directed by her late husband, actor-director John Cassavetes. With 4 Emmys and 2 Golden Globes, Gena has cemented her place in the entertainment world and hasn’t taken on any work since 2014.
