Many people dream and only a fortunate few have the opportunities to be able to actually achieve their dreams. Lady luck does sometime smile and a first-year law student from Columbia, will have the much-coveted chance to dine with a distinguished lawyer and Professor Amal Clooney.
With their memorable dining event scheduled at top-notch Jean-Georges, it would be a great opportunity and a possible stepping stone to greater heights for this aspiring youngster. The Public Law Foundation’s auction at the Columbia Law School was held recently, and informed sources report that a lunch date at the haute French restaurant with Professors Sarah Cleveland and Clooney, was among the many items put up for a bidding war.
Lucky Friends
The date was put up for auction under the title “Right to Food (and Champagne!)”, and went under the hammer, valued at $8,100. Lady luck also smiled upon the winner’s close friends as the luncheon date is eligible for a maximum of six students, with the remaining luncheon spots being filled by friends chosen by the winner. All funds raised at the limited public auction are proposed to be channelized to support legal aid work done by the law school students. Professor Amal Clooney, who is actor George Clooney’s wife, has been at Colombia since 2015, having started her legal teaching career as visiting professor. Together with Professor Sarah Cleveland, the duo co-teaches a course on human rights at the venerable institution. Other institutions where Professor Clooney has taught include The Hague Academy of International Law, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of London, the Law School of Oriental and African Studies, and The New School in NYC. Over the years, Amal has made a name for herself as a highly respected, formidable attorney, specializing specifically in human rights matters and in international law. She is qualified to practice law in the U.S.A and in the U.K, and was admitted to the New York bar in 2002, and in 2010 she was admitted to the bar in England and Wales. On the international arena, she has practised in the International Court of Justice in The Hague and at the International Criminal Court.
Philanthropist Clooney
As those who know of her achievements, Clooney is also a philanthropist, whose love for humanity and generosity knows no bounds. Currently, she heads the Clooney Foundation for Justice as its President and the co-founder is George Clooney, her husband. The organization acknowledges no geographical boundaries and seeks justice for all in courtrooms, communities, and classrooms. The Amal Clooney Scholarship, is a venture, very dear to her heart and in partnership with the Aurora Humanitarian Initiative, this scholarship funds a female student from Lebanon to go to Armenia for a two-year course (International Baccalaureate) program at the United World College, Dilijan.
Personal Life
As has been mentioned, Amal is happily married to actor George Clooney, and the star couple were blessed with twins Alexander and Ella, born in 2017. The two lovers were engaged in early 2014, and their wedding ceremony followed soon after in September 2014. Seeing that both are renowned for their success in their specific fields, their fairy-tale wedding reportedly had a worldwide audience, and received extensive media coverage.
