They may have an army of adoring fans and tons of money, but in matters of civic duty, celebrities follow rules just like all of us. They do get summons for jury duty and some actually serve as jurors! Some jurors are eventually dismissed, and even celebs are expected to follow the law! So if called for jury duty, remember that all American citizens are expected to do their bit, irrespective of whether you were a former President like George W. Bush or Barak Obama were or you happen to be just a regular Joe.
Anna Kendrick
Unlike some others not thrilled to be summoned to court, Anna Kendrick, the Pitch Perfect actress certainly prefers not making a big deal about it. She tweeted about her jury duty experiences in September 2015 and enthralled all and sundry, about her weird courtroom experiences which lasted 3 whole weeks for her. She live-tweeted her third week jury duty-face but remains somewhat undecided about her choice of favourite jury duty experience, about being undecided as regards the splendid all-pervading boredom as juror, and that rather uncomfortable feeling that she was about to get yelled at. We are unable to discuss about the case she was selected to be a juror, but both sides intend to claim all bragging rights for a long time to come and confirm that a celeb graced their case!
Gigi Hadid
On Jan. 13, 2020, Gigi Hadid, the 24-year-old Victoria’s Secret model was summoned to Manhattan Supreme Court and questioned for a juror’s role at the high-profile indecent assault trial of disgraced Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein. She was among 35 potential short-listed jurors requested to return after three days, for additional questioning, after telling a judge about her ability to keep an open mind on the facts. She wrote on Jan. 5, 2020 in her social media account, that this week a dream came true when she was summoned for jury duty and she wished to thank New York State! But, she was not chosen as a juror in the trial eventually.
Sarah Jessica Parker
Some magazines had initiated rumors when reporting that Sarah complained about receiving summons for jury duty and that she tried to opt out by falsely claiming her daughter was sick and her having to catch an international flight. She was outraged by this sneaky character assassination after having served many times as juror and was even requested to speak at a Jury Appreciation Day meet. The truth is that Sarah is a willing and enthusiastic juror.
Uma Thurman
Uma Thurman cannot keep away from courtrooms for the present. The Kill Bill actress was summoned to court in New York in 2008, having filed charges against a man accused of stalking her, and was also summoned for jury duty in another case. The actress attended a jury selection process with other randomly selected people, for a misdemeanour case in New York City. She was disappointed on her non-selection, but was excited by the selection process and also a trifle nervous about the trial dragging on with her being forced to miss work. Thurman was not selected but was back in court when Jackson Jordan, her 36-year-old alleged stalker, went up for trial, for a break-in attempt on her film set trailer and sending her creepy drawings, including one of Uma digging a grave.
